Fw 190A-5 Heavy Fighter
Item no: 7436 Price: €12.75
Eduard’s Fw 190s are by far the best in 1/72 scale, and this Weekend edition offers the four-gun wing A-5, fitted with outboard MG FF 20mm cannon.
Thanks to its modular approach with the styrene runners (two grey and one clear), there are plenty of spares (or donor parts for other Fw 190 projects), while capturing all aspects of this sub-type accurately. As with the other offerings, it features a well-equipped cockpit, with detailed side consoles and instrument panel (being a Weekend release, there are no photo-etched brass enhancements), with decals for the seatbelts. The BMW 801 engine is represented as a partial cylinder bank with separate reduction housing, but is more than adequate for this scale. Cleverly, the undercarriage bay inserts reflect the real aircraft, in that the rear bulkheads form part for the wing spar; when combined with the single-piece lower monoplane, it ensures the correct dihedral.
Two decal sheets are supplied, one for the basic airframe stencils (available separately as D72009), and the other for national and unit markings. Swastikas are provided in two forms, either as two-part or complete items – note the latter may not be included in certain countries. The register is perfect, notably on the Ritterkreuz (Knight’s Cross) and ribbon artwork, and none of the backing paper was visible through the white decal sections…a positive indicator of high opacity. The two schemes are:
