Moebius The Grim Reaper

THERE’S A definite retro feel to Moebius’ newly tooled The Grim Reaper, from the box artwork with its Aurora-style depiction, to the subject, which is reminiscent of the latter’s ‘monster’ series kits.

Its forbidding figure (#972) is part of an instant vignette, along with a base, gravestones and scene-setting gnarled tree — all supplied on 11 styrene runners, and moulded in the firm’s trademark tan-grey plastic. Detail is sharp, with a separate five-piece medieval-style hood for the main robe, which has separate arms and rope belt. However, it’s the smaller features that delight, from the amusing epitaphs on the gravestones, to the hourglass and optional grass fronds. Modellers will have difficult decisions to make, whether to build it out of the box, retro Aurora-style (luminous paint anyone?) or as a depiction of Terry Pratchett’s Death character; the only limit will be one’s imagination.
