October’s Airfix Model World includes a stunning build of Eduard’s 1/48 Spitfire Mk.VIII by Jay Blakemore.
This in-depth build article shows how the basic styrene was combined with a multitude of aftermarket products and a weather-beaten airbrushed finish to replicate MD280/DG-R, which served with 155 Squadron RAF in India and Burma. Even better, the engine was left uncovered, to reveal an intricately detailed Merlin powerplant. If that wasn’t enough, Mike Grant’s gorgeous metallic-hued Fine Molds’ 1/48 A5M4 Claude will surely catch the eye, and he provides hints and tips on creating such a realistic scheme.
Fans of modern aircraft aren’t left out, as there’s Airfix’s 1/72 Victor K.2 (plus informative history feature by a Falklands’ War veteran), Eduard’s 1/72 L-39 Albatros and a decidedly different Fly 1/144 DC-9, which wears a yellow and red DHL scheme. Armour modellers also have plenty to get their teeth into, with Italeri’s 1/35 Maultier Flak combination and Trumpeter’s 1/35 Sa-4 Ganef surface-to-air-missile launcher
With 16 extra pages, and a FREE Pocketbond product catalogue, October’s AMW is a great value buy, packed with builds, news and reviews of all your favourite subjects.
