Mk.81 Bombs w/airbrake
Item no: 648225 Price: €11.25
Eduard’s neat resin package supplies 36 well-cast components, sufficient for six retarded 1/48 Mk.81 250lb (113kg) bombs, nicknamed ‘firecrackers’ for their small size and blast. The bomb bodies are separate to the fin sections, but all feature superb detail, notably on the fins. Four different types of nose fuze are supplied, including impact, proximity and the ‘extender’ version; the latter were approximately 3ft (0.9m) long on the real bomb and enabled it to be employed in the anti-personnel role. Markings, including stencils and single nose bands, are provided for Tritonal-filled Mk.81 munitions. These would be ideal for A-1 Skyraiders, A-4 Skyhawks, A-7 Corsairs, OV-10 Broncos and F-4 Phantoms during the Vietnam War (although the US Marine Corps were still using them on A-4s in the early 1980s) and conical-nosed licence-built versions have been seen in training loads on South African Gripens.
