Models are like buses, nothing for ages and then two at the same time, as evidenced by the forthcoming 1/32 Lancaster releases from Hong Kong Models and Wingnut Wings.
Hong Kong Models’ Lancaster is due imminently, with UK arrival expected in late-November/early December 2018, and a sample kit will be available on the Pocketbond stand at Scale ModelWorld on November 10/11.
It is a strictly limited-edition offering and will include an extra fuselage and nose section in clear styrene, giving modellers the choice of displaying the kit’s sumptuous interior detail, as a ‘conventional’ offering or even as a ‘half-and-half’ model with partial views of the innards. Hong Kong Models’ approach to these clear parts was to produce these items first (without surface detail), after which the moulds were modified for the grey styrene alternatives. This is an irreversible change, which means the clear version can never be produced again.
Markings are included for 3 aircraft comprising R5868/OL-Q ‘Queenie’, R5868/PO-S ‘Sugar’ and W4783/AR-G ‘George’. Length 664mm, wingspan 972mm, 23 sprues, 824 parts, plus photo-etch components and extra clear port/starboard fuselage and nose section.
Details on Wingnut Wings Lancaster are in December’s issue of Airfix Model World (see News, p.8), which also features Airfix’s newly tooled 1/48 Hunter F.6.
